Dust In The Wind

Walt takes a surprise trip to visit his money in the latest Breaking Bad.

  • Previously

Lydia (Laura Fraser) joined meth forces with Todd (Jesse Plemons) and his Klan (geddit, 'cause they're white supremacists); Walt (Bryan Cranston) buried a bunch of barrels of cash in the desert; Hank (Dean Norris) convinced Jesse (Aaron Paul) not to burn down Walt's house but, instead, to work with Hank and the DEA to take Walt down legally; Jesse got wired up and went to a meet with Walt in a public plaza, misinterpreted the situation thinking Walt had brought backup and flipped out on Walt and threatened him, to which Walt responded by calling Todd and telling him he had a job for Todd's uncle Jack (Michael Bowen).

Get The Look: Neo-Nazi Meth Cook

When your boss pops in to check up on the purity of your latest cook (76%? Not bad!), don't dress to impress: she might think you're trying to impress her.

No Mask: Mr. White said you should be careful what you breathe in? Well, now he has lung cancer so apparently he doesn't know everything.

Swastika Neck Tattoo: Some people might say you should cover that up with a turtleneck or at the very least a jaunty neckerchief when your already skittish manager comes to visit, but you don't get a swastika tattoo on your neck not to show that shit off.

Nothing Blue: If you're wearing blue, and your boss is concerned that your meth is not blue, as long as she doesn't have anything other than her own sleeve to compare the sample to, you'll potentially have an easier time convincing her that what she's looking at, in certain lights, could be described as aquamarine. (Is she buying it? She's not really buying it.)

    It's An Acquired Taste

Being a houseguest in someone else's home can be uncomfortable. For instance, what happens when they serve something you really don't want to eat?

Cow Brain: Not only does Hank drop this exotic organ meat directly onto the floor (kind of an unorthodox plating), but he messes it up with his bare fingers, which I don't recall seeing him wash.

Blood: Okay, maybe drizzling the brains with cow blood will make them taste richer and more flavorful, but a nice merlot would probably accomplish the same thing.

    Hanky Panky

    Who called the meeting? Hank.

What's it about? He wants to convince Huell (Lavell Crawford) that Saul's whole enterprise is falling apart, that Walt has already killed Jesse, and that Huell could be next -- but that the DEA will protect Huell if he'll help them carry out Jesse's plan to find Walt's money by telling the DEA everything he knows about where Walt hid it.

How'd it go? Textbook! Huell gives up the whole story of his and Kuby's (Bill Burr) part in removing Walt's money from the storage locker; how many barrels it took to contain all of Walt's cash and what said barrels looked like; where they rented the van Walt used to take the money away; and what condition the van was in when Walt returned it. Great job posing, Jesse.

    Welcome Back, Walter

    Who called the meeting? Walt.

What's it about? He's taking out a hit on Jesse and is working out the details with Uncle Jack et al.

How'd it go? Medium. The good news is that Jack will take out Jesse. The bad news is that he won't do it for cash: he wants Walt to return to the business for a couple of hands-on meth-cooking seminars so that Todd's crew can improve the purity such that it will satisfy Lydia; Walt agrees to do one cook. Jack's also making Walt locate Jesse, but that's cool with Walt, who says he knows how to "flush him out."

Return To The Scene Of The Crime

    Who called the meeting? Walt.

What's it about? His cover story is that he is having a hard time getting Jesse to return his calls after the two of them had a fight, and he's hoping that Andrea (Emily Rios) will be able to help him reach Jesse.

How'd it go? As far as Walt knows, it goes great: he gives Andrea Jesse's new cell phone number, and she leaves him a message chirpily repeating what Walt's told her. What he doesn't know is that Hank hears the message and deletes it from Jesse's phone without telling him about it. One other way this meeting might turn out to be bad for Walt is that Brock (Ian Posada) gets a look at him and sure seems to recognize him....

    Saul: Not So Good (Man)

    Who called the meeting? Saul.

What's it about? He needs to brief Walt on what's going on: Huell is gone, and Saul is wearing a bulletproof vest and scared for his life.

How'd it go? Pretty good from Saul's perspective in the sense that it causes Walt to wonder whether Jesse actually is on a killing spree and took out Huell already.

It's My Money And I Want It Now!

The lead Huell gave Hank about the Lariat rental van turned out to be a dud, since the stupid ACLU forced the company to remove GPS trackers from their vehicles a few months ago. But Walt doesn't know that! So Jesse texts him a photo of what sure as hell looks like one of Walt's barrels, adding the salient detail that he's near six more just like it, which successfully induces Walt to drive out to where he buried it and achieve what has been Jesse's plan all along: to lead Hank and Gomie (Steven Michael Quezada) to what may be the only physical evidence that will incriminate Walt.

    Photo: Ursula Coyote / AMC

To protect his precious money, Walt stays on the line with Jesse, as instructed, and drives straight to where he buried it, but Jesse isn't there, whereupon Walt figures out that he's been duped and calls Uncle Jack to give him the GPS co-ordinates where he is!

    Screen: AMC

While he's still on the line with Uncle Jack, Walt sees that Jesse is with Hank and Gomie, and he defeatedly tells Uncle Jack not to come after all!

    Screen: AMC

Walt decides he's been beaten, and comes out to give himself up!

    Screen: AMC

Walt calls Jesse a coward, and Jesse spits at him! And THEN, as soon as Hank's put Walt into the car and called Marie (Betsy Brandt) to share his triumph, Uncle Jack pulls up with all his guys!
