A List Of Toronto Attractions/Activities Ranked On How Hard It Is To Imagine Mads Mikkelsen Visiting/Doing Them In His Hannibal Downtime
While most sci-fi-tinged TV productions (your Supernaturals, for instance) shoot in the Vancouver area, where the disgusting weather and preponderance of homeless junkies is a price worth paying in order to be in the same time zone as Los Angeles (...I guess), Hannibal shoots in Toronto. Unlike Vancouver, Toronto is a city where I've lived, and given the urbane, sophisticated, extremely European vibe Mads Mikkelsen gives off, I have had a hard time imagining how he fills his spare hours between call times. But in case you, like me, are interested in picturing Mikkelsen spending his spare time in an unfamiliar city -- and country, for that matter -- I've prepared a list of Torontonian leisure activities and attractions, in descending order of how easy it is for me to imagine Mikkelsen enjoying them. Or not enjoying them, as the case eventually is.
- Attending a concert of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
- Planning a day around the opening of the Marina Abramovic show at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
- Taking in Lucia di Lammermoor.
- Touring Casa Loma, an elegant historic home.
- Participating in a tasting of local Ontario wines.
- Taking a photographers' walking tour of historic sites.
- Toning up with a private Bikram yoga class at the Yorkville Club.
- Day-tripping to the border to see the famous Niagara Falls (from the better Canadian side).
- Sampling the tasting menu at Steam Whistle brewery.
- Quietly reading in High Park.
- Buying edgy new wingtips at the John Fluevog store on Queen Street West.
- Walking through St. Lawrence Market with an anthropologist's reserve; buying a peameal bacon sandwich and eating about a third of it.
- Standing in line at Dutch Dreams for about twenty minutes before deciding no ice cream can possibly be worth the hassle and getting an Oreo ice cream sandwich from 7-11 instead.
- Visiting the nude beach at Hanlan's Point, being sheepish about doffing his Speedo but ultimately feeling alive.
- Taking the Edgewalk around the perimeter of the top of the CN Tower, in a helmet and harness and all that stuff. If you're not laughing, you're not picturing it.
- While in Niagara Falls, touring the Ripley's Believe It Or Not "Museum."
- On his way back from Niagara Falls, stopping in St. Catharines to dine at the Mandarin buffet, featuring Chinese and Canadian dishes.
- Taking a Segway tour around Queens Park.
- Attending a Blue Jays game.
- Stocking up on discount irregular socks at the McGregor factory store.
- Rooting for the Blue Knight at Medieval Times Dinner & Show.
- Eating a hot dog from a street vendor.
- Setting foot in the Hockey Hall Of Fame.
