Bring Out Your Dead
The thing about watching Hoarders is that every time you think you've seen the worst example of human behaviour that you or anyone else could possibly imagine...just wait. Because someone even sicker will be on next week. But just as the horror builds from episode to episode, so do Hoarders producers ensure that the horror builds over the course of the episode. The point is, I should have known how much things were going to escalate when they started with a view of what I think was Terry's kitchen countertop absolutely covered in cat shit.
Then, Terry's son Dave told us about the kitten who was so affected by all the ammonia in the air from the cat urine that its "eyes popped out." And they showed us that kitten.
But my God, all of that was still in the very first Terry segment. In the second, we saw Dr. Robin Zasio opening Terry's freezer, finding it full of dead cats, and physically running away.
That's something we didn't even see her do when she had to deal with that house filled with at least a hundred live rats. But as bad as that was, the absolute worst moment -- the emptying of the freezer -- was yet to come. In addition to the dead cats we already knew about, there was...a dead bunny.
Straight-up roadkill.
A dead cardinal.
And finally...a murky, coffee-like liquid that Extreme Cleaning Specialist Matt Paxton helpfully identifies.
SWEET DREAMS, EVERYONE.
