'Wheels Ontario' Is Best Enjoyed With A Bag Of Milk

The whole premise of this feature is that pop culture loves making fun of Canada and Canada doesn't care. Never in one million years did I think I'd get the opportunity to use this space to highlight a Canada gag the length, breadth, and devastating accuracy of which I would find actually humbling, but holy balls did last night's Kroll Show series premiere nail not just Degrassi (of which more in a moment), but Canada. Bagged milk, Victoria Day, curling, First Nations people, the real Canadian pronunciation of the phoneme "out" (it's more like "oat" than "oot"), abortions that are legal and paid for by the state? These are just a few of the Canadianisms that were affectionately spoofed in Wheels Ontario.

What you need to know if you, unlike me, are a respectable adult who doesn't watch shows for children, a few seasons ago, a storyline on Degrassi involved a school shooting. Jimmy (Aubrey Graham), who had been a cocky basketball star (and just kind of a cock, actually) was shot and paralyzed, and spent the rest of his time on the show using a wheelchair. After Jimmy graduated from Degrassi, Aubrey Graham changed careers and became rap star Drake.

Oh yeah, the other thing you need to know about Degrassi is that its cast is maybe the most diverse on all of TV. Now: enjoy!

Just how Canadian is this?

The Canadianosity Scale™ measures both the accuracy and Canadiannessity of a mention of Canada on American television. A score of nine is roughly equivalent to a bucket of loonies with a couple of Sacagawea dollars you really have to hunt for.
