Ranked: The Internet's Best Interpretations Of The Law & Order Theme Song

'Lennie Briscoe Shreds' is not one of them, alas.

Composer Mike Post is very prolific, but surely even he must agree that his legacy is the theme song for Law & Order and its distinctive "chung-chung" sound effect. Even if he doesn't, the internet knows better: musicians of all kinds have taken Post's iconic composition, put their own spins on it, and shared them with the world. To put you in the right mood for Law & Order Week, here's a countdown of the very best ones we could find.

First, for reference: the actual theme song.

Not that you really need to hear it, probably. It's in your DNA.

Honourable Mention

This is a Law & Order-inspired interpretation of the Community theme song for its 2012 L&O-inspired episode, "Basic Lupine Urology." So it doesn't quite count, but it's still pretty good.

7. Law & '80s

The difference on this take is pretty subtle, but if you ever bought a movie soundtrack in the '80s, you'll hear it.

6. 8-Bit Remix

What if Law & Order were a videogame from your youth? It might sound a little something like...you get it.

5. L&O Is "Where It's At"

I don't know how I never noticed how similar the guitar line in "Where It's At" is to Mike Post's melody. This is a bit rough but I kind of love its weirdness.

4. Solo Guitar

This one is ready to be the theme song for Law & Order: Nashville today. I am not a crackpot.

3. Dance Remix

The best thing about this one is Jack McCoy gazing at you while you listen when you KNOW he this would totally be his club jam.

2. A Cappella

I recommend just listening to this solid all-vocal arrangement in your headphones and skipping the visuals, which are a little bit too pleased with themselves.

1. All-Ukulele

Ukes Of Hazzard (...genius) performs all the instrumental parts of the Law & Order theme song on his ukulele. Makes you wonder why anyone would ever fuck with a clarinet.
