Animal Odd Couples: Where Are They Now?
Kasi & Mtani
Though cheetah Kasi and golden retriever Mtani (above) enjoyed a long and happy career as, basically, the Lunts of the animal park where they lived and worked, since the filming of "Animal Odd Couples," they have retired from show business; Mtani volunteers as a mentor to aspiring performing dogs, and Kasi has become an amateur raw meat chef.
Anthony & Riley
Riley the coyote and lion Anthony are still together, and have started the process of adopting an orphaned wolf cub from China. Because they live in a state that is not favorable to gay interspecies animal adoption, though, the ordeal has turned them into accidental activists for bringing the law into the 21st century.
Amy & Ransom
Since recovering his eyesight, dog Ransom -- who had been blind from birth -- has undertaken occupational therapy to help him to get used to navigating the world with a sixth sense; he has expressed that it's a relief of sorts to know that at least he'll always be colourblind. His partner, Amy the deer, maintains her thriving pediatric practice.
Tortoise & Goose
Due to some slipshod research on the part of a subcontracted Naturecontributor, some details were left out of Margaret and Vladimir's story -- like their names, for a start! Once we found them, however, we learned that Margaret the tortoise is writing a memoir about the challenges she's faced from her community since her relationship with Vladimir, a goose, has gone public. (There's also the matter of how advisable it is for her to "look back" on a life that, since she's forty-five, might only be a third over.) Rumours that Vladimir has a second family with a bobcat in Canada have, thus far, been unsubstantiated.
Jack & Charlie
Since the passing of his goat partner Charlie, as reported in "Animal Odd Couples," blind horse Jack has had to become somewhat more self-sufficient, though he also now employs a personal assistant -- a fully sighted llama named Jorge. With Jorge's help, Jack has embarked upon a new career as doing commercial voice-overs.
Kate & Pip
Since the filming of "Animal Odd Couples," Kate the dog finally admitted to herself that she wasn't happy being in an on-and-off long-distance relationship with semi-domesticated deer Pip, and the couple has parted ways. Currently single, Kate is self-employed as a CPA and enjoys spending time with her young nieces. Pip could not be reached for comment.
20F & Atlas
After seeing asocial monkey 20F on "Animal Odd Couples," beta gibbon Atlas contacted producers and asked them to pass on a message to 20F: if she ever had occasion to travel from her native Puerto Rico to South Africa, she should look him up and they could get a cup of coffee. As it happened, 20F cousin 43G was about to get married in Cape Town, so 20F extended her trip to add a visit to Monkeyland. Atlas and 20F hit it off, and 20F is exploring the South African job market with the idea of moving to Monkeyland sometime in 2013.
In case PBS's Nature is not on your radar, "Animal Odd Couples" is available in full online, and I highly recommend it.
