New York, New York: It's A Hell Of A Town

Poor, poor Roger. Roger has been brought into All Saints because he was "standing up in a double-decker tour bus, got nailed by a no left turn sign." YIKES. People really take double-decker bus tours?

Just kidding. Roger's injury is the stuff of nightmares (and echoes a memorable Six Feet Under Corpse Of The Week, except that time it was a lady standing up through the sunroof of a limousine and her head smacked into the bucket of a cherrypicker, and she died), and looks pretty gnarly.

But wait. There's...there's more. When his vital signs are all freaking out in ways that the head trauma alone shouldn't have caused, Prentiss (Morris Chestnut) suggests that they roll Roger over on his side to see if there's anything else that they missed. Turns out: there is.

Which is to say, there is a souvenir die-cast model of the Empire State Building jammed into Roger's spine, presumably because he was knocked back onto it when his face hit the street sign.

Female Paramedic (Katie Flahive): "Yeah, we missed that." OH, YOU MISSED IT, HUH? OOPSIE-DOODLES!

Though the paramedics should have been more attentive, all of this is really Roger's own fault. As Prentiss notes, "Tourists like all the wrong shit." (Not all tourists! When I came home from visits to New York with Orla Kiely purses from Peter Hermann, none of them was ever in danger of getting traumatically embedded in me.) But the poor choice of knickknack is a secondary cause of Roger's predicament. It would have remained nothing but an innocent souvenir if Roger had kept his seat.
