Review Launches Its Glory-ous Second Season
Forrest MacNeil returns to review life experiences, ruin his own life.
When we last left off with Forrest MacNeil, his inexhaustible appetite for reviewing life experiences -- no matter how unpleasant, dangerous, or gross -- had pretty much left his life in shambles: he'd divorced his wife Suzanne (to her relief, as it turned out), been indirectly responsible for the death of his ex-father-in-law, and quit his job. Did that moment of sincere communion with Suzanne in the season finale mean, despite what she...actually said, that she and Forrest might be able to right their ship? Will Forrest get to review "Rekindling An Old Love Affair"?
Short answer: maybe! What I have no compunction telling you straight up is that Forrest definitely does review glory holes. I know: finally!
This isn't the full review, but it sure seems like Glory Holes > Family Holes, right?
You can definitely jump in with Review if you haven't seen the first season: the season premiere begins with a recap of the salient events you missed -- and you'll need it, because while it may seem like each segment of an episode is self-contained, it's kind of sneakily serialized in a way that didn't become clear until a few episodes into Season 1. Forrest's choices -- "mistakes" is another word that would also work there -- continue affecting his life and subsequent reviews; the show has an ambition that the inspired goofiness of its actual review segments camouflage. After that first episode of Season 1, you might not think the man whose face was caked with cocaine could earn your empathy as his professional dedication came to be at odds with his heart. But he actually can!
Review is a smart, sly show that also trades in physical comedy and doesn't hesitate to humiliate its protagonist at every possible turn. Five stars.
Review airs Thursdays at 10 PM ET on Comedy Central.
