New York Has Three Airports, None Of Which Was On Suits Last Night

We spotted some Canada in the Season 3 premiere.

The Season 3 premiere of Suits gives us a breakthrough, of sorts, from Harvey (Gabriel Macht): he chased down Scottie (Abigail Spencer) to...well, to pump her for information about a client, fine. That's not the breakthrough part. When she challenges him to show her he deserves her help, he makes a declaration that proves how much she's meant to him, since the first moment he saw her when they were both in law school. Plus there's the fact that the place he had to chase her to was one of New York's airports, and that he had to buy a First Class ticket to Trinidad-Tobago in order to get past security and find her. Except that's not the airport!

It's not even in New York! It's Toronto's Direct Energy Centre, a place I've spent a lot of time in because they hold the One Of A Kind Christmas [Craft] Show there and I go every year because I am an extremely cool individual. In this shot, you can even see the door where the security guard is standing in the bottom left corner. Now, the logic of this setting is questionable -- I can't think of many airports where travellers are channeled through actual doors, which would quickly cause a bottleneck once they've cleared TSA (not to mention doors that apparently lead to the outside???) -- but the long hallway outside the exhibition hall does look airport-esque. I bet Abigail Spencer walked right past a spot, on those benches to her right, where my sister changed my niece's diaper at the 2011 show.

Later, Harvey has a showdown with Gary Cole's Special Prosecutor in the shadow of a Rogers store -- think Canada's Time Warner. Gun to my head, I'd guess it's the location at Bloor and Jarvis.

For all the fun we have watching the machinations inside a cutthroat New York law firm -- and we do! Louis (Rick Hoffman) alone! -- I always have a private titter when I notice Toronto in the background. Not to say there aren't scumbag lawyers in Toronto, too, but they're a lot more polite than the ones on Suits; less "Win the goddamn case" than "Do your best, Cathy!"
