If You're A Pretty Blonde, The Challenging Fallout From Your Unplanned Pregnancy Can Be HILARIOUS

At the center of two of this fall's new sitcoms -- Fox's Ben & Kate and The New Normal, on NBC -- is a character who, in another era, would be the object of derision and shame in her community: the unwed teen mom. The titular Kate (Dakota Johnson) and Normal's Goldie (Georgia King) share the same hair color, the same kind of unplanned offspring (girl), and naming inspiration for the actress who plays her (U.S. states in the lower 48!), and there are a few things we learn about sitcom single motherhood from their shows' pilots.

  • Rather than providing emotional support, your family members are probably drains on your patience.
  • Your significant other will definitely cheat on you.
  • Your closest relatives also suck at love.
  • After forgoing college for surprise motherhood and thus giving up on your dreams, you will have to wait tables.
  • Your daughter will be extremely solemn amid the chaos that is your life.
  • When your friends talk about the importance of physical attractiveness around your pre-teen daughter, you will do nothing to stop them.
  • Even when your child is school-aged, people around you will refer to your having conceived her as a mistake.
