NBC Has Decided Not To Buy The Farm

It's almost surprising that The Farm, NBC's proposed Dwight-focused spinoff of The Office, is not going forward, after all the time and effort NBC took in casting what seemed like five thousand people (none of them Mose, since Michael Schur already has another job running Parks & Recreation). On the other hand, basically none of the news coming out of NBC's Comedy department has been good in weeks, so why should this be any different?

Some might say that The Farm was misbegotten from the start, revolving as it did around Dwight (Rainn Wilson), a character who's grating even in the supporting cast on The Office. But a look at the breakdowns for the show's first season's worth of episodes shows that is just not the case. Sure, Dwight seems weird at Dunder Mifflin, but imagine if he were the normal one, and everyone else at his family's beet farm were even weirder? Here are a few of the stories that we, tragically, will never get to see.

"Borscht Belted"

There's an international food fair in Scranton, and a local Russian social club wants to buy Schrute Farm's entire beet crop. As a canny businessman, Dwight is ready to sell; unfortunately, his brother Jeb (Thomas Middleditch) refuses to sell to "Commies," and prepares to take up arms to prevent the transaction.

"Bed And Brokefast"

When reservations at Dwight's Schrute Farm Bed & Breakfast start to flag, Dwight's cousin Zeke (Matt Jones) decides to open up the empty beds to all his transient friends.

"Womanure"

Inspired by Dwight's acuity as a salesman and entrepreneur, Dwight's sister Fannie (Majandra Delfino) hatches a scheme to market and sell a rich new fertilizer made from her own solid waste.

"I Like Reich"

Dwight's relationship with his slutty neighbour Monique (Wendi McClendon-Covey), who happens to be Jewish, hits a snag when he can't avoid introducing him to his Nazi great-uncle Heinrich (Tom Bower).

"Battlestar Gale-actica"

In the touching and dramatic season finale, Dwight and his erratic family members must learn to work together to save the farm when Scranton ends up in the path of a tornado.
