Weird Client Is Weird
Dylan Baker's Colin Sweeney returns to The Good Wife to display the full range of (technically) human emotion.
When you're an upstart law firm, you can't be that fussy about your clients. If handling a corporate merger might get you $1 million bonus, there's no point getting all precious about whether the CEO maybe killed someone, which is how Alicia found herself back at Colin Sweeney's just in time for the party celebrating his engagement to Renata, his latest/possible-next-late wife. And as bad luck would have it, she happens to be under the same roof with Sweeney when he loses another intimate friend, as Renata's would-have-been Maid of Honour Morgan apparently hangs herself OR DID SHE? (Spoiler: she didn't.) But if Alicia's a witness, and Cary's representing Sweeney when he's questioned as a suspect, who's going to deal with the case when Renata is the one who gets arrested? Obviously, it's Diane, one of five defense attorneys in the greater Chicago area.
...but I can't get too mad at The Good Wife, because seeing this case play out is so much fun. See, Sweeney and Renata and Morgan all used to hook up and engage in a somewhat outré Japanese BDSM technique, so what would seem under other circumstances to be evidence of rope torture on Morgan was apparently consensual. And when Diane gets the coroner to admit as much, Sweeney's all like
Later, Sweeney buttonholes Alicia right before her testimony in the case to hint, broadly, that if Renata isn't acquitted, Florrick Agos could lose a big payday, and maybe Alicia could keep that in mind when she's recalling the events of the night in question. Alicia orders him to stop talking and puts physical distance (and a frosty look) between them, and when she takes the stand not having taken him up on his almost-but-not-quite offer, he's all
But when it turns out that his overture was entirely orchestrated by Diane so that she could ask Alicia about it on the stand and impeach Alicia's credibility, I'm like
I can't even get that mad when it turns out Renata actually did kill Morgan. You get into shibari, eventually someone's going to choke you out for good. And maybe Morgan should have Googled Sweeney. Duh.
