David Letterman's Late Show Demos Its Last Toys

#sobbingshopping

In terms of cuteness, The Late Show's toy demos, featuring toy industry expert Shannon Eis, can't quite meet the high standard set by the annual parade of spoof Hallowe'en costumes modelled by real kids. But it is fun. Eis brings a bunch of jazz -- some probably chosen for legitimate PR reasons, others just so Dave can goof on them and/or try to break them. And this year's installment, which aired last night, is no exception!

After some business involving a somewhat obscene cat paw situation (lead guest Anna Kendrick, who came on after the toys, kind of nails how inappropriate it is), Eis closes out the segment by giving Dave the chance to ride a kid's motor bike. How's noted speed enthusiast David Letterman going to turn that down?

Driving the motor bike into the tree is probably pretty much what everyone on set assumed Letterman would do. But given the way the camera operators had to scramble to follow him out to the street -- and that they briefly lost sight of him -- I have to think he came up with that one on the spur of the moment. And while I love Letterman and am happy we don't have to say goodbye to him just yet, if he had just zoomed out of the studio and into oblivion...that would have been a pretty rad way to go out.
