Where EXACTLY Is The Bates Motel?
I realize what an endless task it is to nitpick the plot elements of A&E's new Psycho prequel miniseries Bates Motel. Like, for instance, is everyone in this family a murderer? Is anyone ever going to clean one of the motel guest rooms? And why did The Seafairer, the original name of the titular motel, have that extraneous letter "i" in it? All those queries aside, last night's episode featured definitive proof that despite the fact that the show is set in Oregon (the fictional village of White Pine Bay, to be precise), it most certainly isn't.
Americans: I understand why you can't see the damning evidence in this screen shot. Unlike Tim Hortons, our banks haven't made it over the border yet (though you might wish they would: they are, after all, world-famous for their safe and ethical business practices). But that wine-coloured sign in the top right corner indicates the location of a CIBC Instant Teller ATM -- CIBC standing for "Canadian Imperial Bank Of Commerce," the only bank more Canadian-sounding than the Royal Bank of Canada. So now we know: if you check into the Bates Motel after all the restaurants in "White Pine Bay" close, you can always order yourself a 2 4 1 Pizza.
