It's Finally Time For Billy To Get Back On The Street!
For a dollar, how do you think Judith Light feels about it?
We enjoyed his Craig finding love at last in the final season of Parks & Recreation. We thrilled to his misanthropic exploits on his sitcom Difficult People. We giggled as he and Stephen Colbert charmed each other's pants halfway off earlier this week on The Late Show. All of those new ways of entertaining us are welcome indeed. And yet, through it all...didn't you kind of yearn for him to get back On The Street? I know I did, and tonight, at long last, he will.
After three seasons on Fuse, a cable network, Billy On The Street moves tonight to its new home: truTV. Fans of courtroom sketch artistry might recall that truTV is now occupying the space on your dial that used to be Court TV, and has, over the past few years, edged away from its original real-life, soft-news-y programming to more comedic/informative shows: Billy will definitely fit in better here among the likes of The Carbonaro Effect and Adam Ruins Everything. But lest you fear that the move off Fuse will soften Billy...you needn't. I was lucky enough to get a screener for the Season 4 premiere, and in addition to the LaTina Fey game I highlighted last week, another segment finds him playing a multiple choice game about a venerated American musician and a sometimes controversial sex act. And then there's this.
I've written before about how homesick Billy makes me now that I no longer live in New York, and the exchange that closes out this clip is a beautiful example of why. It's not as though other cities can't be the locations for interactions that start pleasant and abruptly turn hostile. It's that New Yorkers do it better than anyone else. And just in case New Yorkers themselves are at risk of forgetting that, bless Billy Eichner for getting on the street and in strangers' faces to bring out their best/worst/weirdest unguarded reactions. This show is a treasure and I hope truTV renews it for 50 more seasons tomorrow.
Billy On The Street airs Thursdays at 10:30 PM ET on TruTV.
