You've Seen That Spree Of '23 Guest Before....
"Oh yeah, I had to do a lot to prepare. I read ladies' magazines from the '20s, and The Great Gatsby and stuff. Obviously, I had to take a dance class! It was kind of hard to blend in on the dance floor, but then again, it's not like that music really makes you want to drop it like it's hot, right?
"I knew it would be risky. There was a whole battery of psychological tests I had to take to prove I was up for it, that I wouldn't freak out and blow my cover. No one told me I was going to have to try to act normal around a guy with half a face, but I guess they didn't know either. And if I'd really been from the '20s, I probably would have run into lots of World War I veterans who'd survived all kinds of experimental surgery or whatever. I was kind of shocked when I met him, but I held it together without blurting out that I...you know, wasn't going to be born for another sixty years or so.
"See, people think it's crazy, but from my perspective, it's just logical. Traditional corporate espionage can only get you so far -- we all saw Duplicity! ...Oh right, I guess 'we' didn't all see it, it didn't do that great. I saw it, though. I saw it six times. I was fascinated. I thought, okay, maybe I couldn't be a real spy, like a Sydney Bristow, but I could sure as hell infiltrate a company and learn its secrets.
"So the mission was actually a two-parter. The first was to meet influential tastemakers and give them the product, to start demand spiking earlier. Say what you will about Gyp Rosetti -- I mean, I'm not an idiot, I know he's not exactly a pillar of the community -- but he's influential. You can't deny that. If I got him on board, I could really go a long way toward achieving my mission.
"Anyway, I know there wasn't a lot of me in this episode, and that's okay -- Nucky cracking up is a big deal; I'm not trying to compete with that -- but maybe next week you'll get to see more of the other half of my mission: travelling to the greater Chicago area and assassinating Ray Kroc."
