Broad City Is Living History As Ilana And Abbi Meet Hillary Clinton

Ilana's chance delivery to a campaign office changes the course of her life...for a few hours.

Ever since Ilana got her ass bounced out of Deals! Deals! Deals!, things haven't been going well. Though the rent party caper worked out -- that is, assuming that her guests didn't all demand their money back as soon as the rat family made itself known, which certainly may have happened offscreen -- she still doesn't have a full-time job, and when her brother happens to catch her tap-dancing for tips on the subway, he informs her that he's not going to cover for her with their parents anymore. Ilana resolves to find full-time work immediately, which is how she ends up bike-messenging -- a job that, unexpectedly, she seems perfectly suited for?

When Ilana's travels happen to take her to Hillary Clinton's campaign office, it's clear that this is fate, and Ilana is prepared to answer the call and serve.

And at her first staff meeting, Ilana learns that Clinton faces challenges that other candidates don't: any staffers making calls to potential voters should be prepared to tell them that, no, Hillary doesn't cry at the office; yes, she can read a map; no, she "will not enforce male birth control or 'male pregnancy,' as that is not a thing."

Alas, Ilana learns soon enough that this is not, in fact, a paid position, and her career as New York's most passionate Hillary Clinton volunteer comes to an abrupt end. But Abbi joins her as she packs up, just in time for a miracle.

Incredibly, Ilana "Rodham" Wexler holds it together better than "lifelong Demo...CRAT!" Abbi:

(We don't see Madam Secretary's reaction to this announcement, which just makes me assume no one on set that day wanted to be the one to tell her what it meant.)

Ilana pledges to tweet a message of support for Clinton's candidacy once a week, which she is even less likely to remember to do than she is to vote -- which is probably just as well for Clinton since Ilana seems more like a natural Bernie supporter to me. And before she leaves, she gets a brief moment to enjoy Clinton's new campaign office morale co-ordinator.

That's going to give the Clinton campaign the momentum of a runaway freight train...until Sanders puts together a bunch of his micro-donations and invests in a t-shirt cannon.
