Brooklyn Nine-Nine Lets Terry Get His Sci-Fantasy Geek On, And We're Collecting His Most Endearing Moments
Little Terry: you better believe you made the cut.
Terry gets a big, meaty role to go with his big, meaty physique in "Skyfire Cycle," this week's episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine: the A-plot finds Terry and Jake investigating death threats against D.C. Parlov, the author of comically thick sci-fantasy novels who definitely shouldn't be confused with either Game Of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin nor with Edward L.L. Moore, Younger's Martin doppelgänger. This is a big deal for Terry, since Parlov's book series, the Skyfire Cycle, has been meaningful to him since he was a kid...which is the perfect segue into our collection of the most adorable geek love moments from the episode.
1. The Littlest Terry
We've seen flashbacks to Terry at earlier points in his life (generally because it's funny to put Terry Crews in period-appropriate hairstyles of yesteryear), but I believe this is the first time we see Terry as a kid, as he gleefully devours one of Parlov's books.
Terry goes on to say that a kind and encouraging inscription from Parlov motivated a chubby Little Terry to change his life. "Little Terry got buuuuuuuuuff," smirks Jake. "Little Terry got emotionally healthy," Terry corrects him, through gritted teeth. "Yeah, and jaaaaaaaaacked," Jake replies. "You know what -- he DID get jacked!" beams Terry. "Way to go, Little Terry!"
2. Never Meet Your Heroes...Like This
Because Jake wants Terry to have a great moment with Parlov, he has the case reassigned to Terry...
...who's not quite prepared to be in the great man's presence.
3. Cosplay Commitment
Looking for leads in the Skyfire fan community requires that Terry and Jake dress the part. But dressing is only the beginning!
Jake should consider adding that fluffy tail to his everyday outfits, in my opinion.
4. Look Out, Dictionaries
The investigation seems to point toward Parlov having faked the threatening letters, forcing Terry to confront the author with evidence of handwriting in the death threat that's identical to the script in Terry's book. Unfortunately, what they learn instead is that Parlov never wrote the inscription that changed Terry's life: that was his former assistant.
Terry takes it as well as can be expected.
5. The Rock-Hard Arm Of The Law
A heartbroken Terry ditches the case...
...but he can't stay away for long, arriving just in time to clothesline the real perp. Now if Parlov ever writes another Skyfire book in this millennium, Terry will probably get one that's autographed for real.
