How To Survive A Party Full Of Scumbags...That Is, 'Public Defenders'
It's a good thing for Peralta that Terry loves love, and is willing to fake friendliness harder than anyone has ever faked before.
We probably could have guessed that the dating relationship between Peralta and Sophia couldn't last, for myriad reasons: she's an adult; he doesn't eat vegetables; she never really forgot that he's still in love with Amy. Probably none of us could have predicted that she'd want to press pause because her dating a cop was causing her to miss out on opportunities at work. In fact, when she presents this reason to Peralta, some (me) thought that excuse was going to turn out to be total BS, and the kind of lie she thought she could get away with because he'd have no way to verify it. Instead, the story goes in another direction entirely: Peralta decides that Sophia will agree to press play on their dating again if he can just win over her jerk of a boss by "happening" to run into him out in the world and pretending to like all the same things he does. Where in the world? At a charity gala for local Public Defenders, of course!
(Unwarrantedly) confident though Peralta is, however, a party full of human garbage defense attorneys is a den of iniquity he can't handle on his own. And inducing Terry to back him up is only half the battle: the other half is going to be making sure Terry fits in by shoring up his phony smile.
No, phonier.
Phonier!
Aaaaaaaand he's ready.
