Courtney Stodden May Have A New Problem
It's not like we didn't already know, before she joined the second-season cast of VH1's Couples Therapy, that Courtney Stodden may have had some problems. She's (allegedly) eighteen years old, yet ever since she became a public figure by marrying the middle-aged character actor Doug Hutchison, she's dressed and acted like a porn actress -- an old, busted one, not one that could pass for Barely Legal. Also, she married a middle-aged character actor, and well before she had finished high school (which she now, I guess, doesn't need to do?). She has an apparent compulsion to act out sexually and a seemingly boundless need for the attention of strangers. And in last night's episode of the show, we learned that Courtney may have yet another obstacle in her path to becoming a fully realized human person: it seems like her mom is into Doug.
According to Dr. Jenn, Krista, Courtney's mom, has been hesitant to accept Jenn's invitations for her to participate in Courtney's therapy, because Krista has been vilified in the press for giving Courtney permission to marry Doug in the first place. But Krista wants to be a reality star, so she probably decided that the risk of being the target of more vitriol was worth it for the chance that making a guest appearance in Courtney's therapy could serve as an unofficial audition tape -- and given that it's VH1, the odds are good that it'll pay off; there's nothing that network loves more than spinning off its reality characters into their own shows. So Krista sat down with Dr. Jenn one on one and gave her perspective on Doug and Courtney's relationship. And because VH1 is not run by morons, they put the encounter online in its entirety.
AHHHHHHHH DR. JENN'S FACE AT THE END OF THE CLIP IS SO AWESOME! I'm betting you were making the same grossed-out expression as you watched this display, because whaaaaaaaat?! Dr. Jenn obviously doesn't want to come out and say it because she doesn't want to get sued, but a child could see that Krista at least has a crush on Doug, if not more. So now one has to look back at all the official details of Doug and Courtney's courtship through this lens. Maybe Krista wasn't reading Courtney and Doug's emails because she wanted to make sure no one was saying anything inappropriate; maybe she was reading them and wishing Doug were writing those things to her. Maybe Courtney didn't pursue Doug of her own volition; maybe Krista pushed her in his direction for her own reasons. Maybe it wasn't "a beautiful thing to watch." Haha, well, even if the official story is true, it can't have been beautiful to watch.
Even before we knew what Courtney Stodden's mother looks like, it seemed like said mother probably didn't give her the greatest of starts in life, given the way things turned out for her. But now VH1 has confirmed it!
And, oh my God, if Krista can display this determined a lack of self-awareness in a five-minute clip, imagine what she could do with her own TV series! It has to happen.
