Dishing Out Punishment
A typically dopey Couples Therapy exercise leads to an expression of pure intimacy.
Though my primary purpose in watching Couples Therapy this season has been to judge Joe Francis -- a blob of self-tanner that fell onto a pile of hobo shit and, through a truly horrible gypsy curse, took "human" form -- the latest episode forced me to take a break and turn my attention to another couple: Flavor Flav and his girlfriend, Liz Trujillo.
We already know that Flav is not a great person himself, and that a major point of contention in his relationship with Liz is that he starred in Flavor Of Love AFTER he not only was (supposedly) committed to her, but after he had gotten her pregnant. So when Dr. Jenn Berman takes all the couples to a junk yard and encourages them to get out their aggression by smashing stuff up, it doesn't take much encouragement for Liz to start laying waste to some dishes, screaming out her grievances against Flav. And when she's finished, he shows his support for her attempts at healing and his contrition for his part in causing her pain by making a small gesture that speaks volumes.
How do you get a REAL hug from Flavor Flav? You do something so moving that he has no choice but to toss his big stupid clock over his shoulder so that you actually get direct contact with his chest.
Oh hell, since we're here, let's hit some of the Joe Francis lowlights!
- called anyone else trashy
- tried to act magnanimous about accepting an apology from Flav when JOE was the one who was wrong
- spent the whole time Heather and Dustin were trying to talk honestly in group therapy about their sex life smirking knowingly
- refused to participate in the aggression exercise because he knew it would get mocked on The Soup
- trying to play off his refusal by claiming it's because he doesn't believe in violence due to his childhood abuse
- presided over a company that produces especially exploitative pornography (this happened off-camera)
