Based on what we know, it would be reasonable for us to assume that there is no assistant -- no person -- who could possibly meet the high, exacting standards of Liz B. and Liz G. of PubLIZity. (It's based off their name.) We've certainly never seen them put together a publicity campaign or event that's satisfied any of their clients, though if they're bad at their job due to their terrible dispositions or have terrible dispositions because they know they're bad at their job, who can say? What is certain is that shit rolls downhill, generally onto Cassandra, and then continues rolling downhill with her all rolled up in it.
Working for Liz and Liz is so unbearable for the long-suffering, uncomplaining Cassandra that when the "opportunity" arises for her to appear on a reality show "about [her] family," as she vaguely describes it, she jumps at the chance and quits on PubLIZity. A reality show about Cassandra's family, one wonders? Maybe the reason for her equanimity this whole time is that she doesn't really need the job, and finally we're going to get to see her surrounded by the members of her glamorous clan! This reality show is probably the natural heir to Keeping Up With The Kardashians!
Or maybe not.
Adding insult to injury, Cassandra's replacement doesn't really replace any of the functions she formerly performed. Brenth can't actually do work -- attending all-hands meetings, for example -- because he has an audition at 11:45? It's for a play? Of Cruel Intentions.
So naturally, this is where Brenth leaves himself vulnerable to attack from Liz and Liz, right? If they couldn't tolerate the many and varied ways Cassandra kept disappointing them, Brenth missing a meeting for his real career is going to lose him his PubLIZity desk as soon as he's settled into it, surely! Except Brenth is irresistible!
His coy facial expressions! His charming commitment to make it into the office in time for lunch! Sure, he blows off answering all the Lizzes' emails, but what do they expect: he's "not, like, a techie!" Brenth is such a star, in fact, that he gets another job offer and ditches Liz and Liz immediately...just in time for Cassandra to come crawling back, bearing cupcakes, because Fat Dad Dirty House has been cancelled mid-episode. Thus do Cassandra, Liz, and Liz end up yoked together yet again, trapped in their shared personal hell, and with nothing to drink but Yogurt Water.
Our time with Brenth was so brief, and yet he touched us all. He gave us a window at Liz G.'s opinion of gay people. He reminded us how much we love lunch. And as for his play audition: did Brenth actually mean Les Liaisons Dangereuses? Probably not. But maybe! Either way, I think we all hope Brenth gets it and that we get to see his performance as either Sebastian or Valmont. And that Liz and Liz are front-row center, disrupting the performance by sucking and/or shaking their iced coffees.
