Ann Romney Clarifies Her Endorsement Of Modern Family

Our Players

Hello, I'm Entertainment Tonight Reporter Nancy O'Dell.
Hi, I'm Ann Romney!

The Scene

Mrs. Romney, I just wanted to follow up on your pick of Modern Family as the show whose return you're most excited for.
Oh, sure!
Mrs. Romney, I just wanted to follow up on your pick of Modern Family as the show whose return you're most excited for.
Oh, sure!
The show's creator, Steven Levitan, joked on Twitter that he'd love to have you cameo on the show officiating Cameron and Mitchell's wedding, whenever same-sex marriage is legalized again in California, where the characters live.

Oh. Haha. That's funny.
If Prop 8 is overturned in California, would you consider playing this role on the show?
Well, you know, right now the marriage issue is one that is being dealt with on the state level--
And it was legalized in Massachusetts when your husband, the Republican Presidential nominee, was the governor there.

...
Right?
That is true, but his position on it was...uh, he was against it.
So, Modern Family.
Oh my, yes! Such a funny show, a funny, funny show, I love the way the families like to play pranks on each other, just like we do in our family!
Yes, and one of the three families that the show revolves around is a gay couple raising an adopted daughter, about to adopt a son as well.
Yes, that's true.
So you enjoy the show and these characters even though your husband's campaign is having some problems in reaching the consituency of gay voters because of his opposition to gay marriage?
I think it's important to remember that these are fictional characters, you know, and I don't think the show is really taking a political position so much as it's just trying to be funny. Which it is! Very funny!
But the show's creator is taking a political position, this week, directed at you, and pointing out your hypocrisy.
You know, I would really like to discuss this, but I'm sorry, I really have to go!
Just one more quick TV question, please.
I mean--
If the Alex character, a young woman and a very promising student with a bright future ahead of her, were to be sexually assaulted by her father Phil, would your husband's administration support her choice to terminate the pregnancy?
No! Okay? No, it would not. His running mate does not support a rape exception in abortion law and so neither does Mitt, and I don't appreciate being hounded about this!
...
Are we done here?
Don't you agree that Manny's precocity is kind of played out at this point?
I fast-forward through all the scenes with the Mexicans.
