It's morning in the Dunphy house! Unfortunately for Claire (Julie Bowen) and Phil (Ty Burrell), Luke (Nolan Gould) has gotten onto a soccer team, which means that even on a Saturday morning, they have to get up at 6 AM to take him to games. It's such an ungodly early hour, in fact, that a still-mostly-asleep Claire rolls over and touches her husband on his shoulder for half a moment!
Adversity (in the form of soccer-caused sleep deprivation) has brought them so close together that even in an interview describing the situation, Claire is moved to give Phil a squeeze of solidarity.
When Claire hatches a plan to weasel out of attending the game, she sells it with compliments for Phil's sense of humour that even he knows, in the moment, are false -- and once he's agreed to her scheme, all pretense is dropped. Phil points out that if they don't have to get ready for soccer, they can spend a little more time in bed together, right?
Wrong.
