#AsIf
A lot of the latest Parks & Recreation rings true, which is why one catastrophically unbelievable screen shot RUINS EVERYTHING. (Not really.) (But kind of.)
Ever since Donna's (Retta) Twitter feed became a Parks & Recreation plot point around this time last year, we probably could have guessed that it might get her character in trouble -- and sure enough, last night it did, when Donna forgot to log out of the Parks department's official Twitter before sending a suggestive tweet to a "friend." Some might have suspended the suspension of their disbelief at this event, but not me: I know it happens to the best of us. THE BEST OF US. (...It has happened to me.) (Not with a sext, but still.)
Unfortunately for Leslie (Amy Poehler), Donna's error occurs at a time when Leslie's political opponents -- chief among them Councilman Jamm (Jon Glaser) -- are baying for her blood, and use it as a pretext to manufacture outrage about Leslie, the way she runs the Parks department, and the lack of control she exerts over her staff. Based on Jamm's previously-established dickishness and the sorry state of democracy in Pawnee, this is certainly credible: no need to suspend one's suspension of disbelief here either.
As the hearings over "Twitter Watergate" begin, it seems like Jamm might be out of luck: Donna's Twitter account...is private. And here's where I feel I must start un-suspending my disbelief. The woman who, just two episodes ago, was livecasting her #questforcoffee doesn't want her every move and thought to be available to the general public? But, okay, maybe now that she's transitioned to using her Twitter feed to set up sexy assignations, maybe her better judgment overruled her thirst for social media fame.
But then Jamm -- via Typhoon, the hairdresser they share and whose Great Gatsby brunch Donna probably should have attended -- gets access to Donna's protected account and is thus able to have her tweets both read into the record and displayed to everyone in the hearing room, which is when we see this.
I can believe that a philanthropic doctor who looks and acts like Tatiana Maslany might consent to date Tom (Aziz Ansari). I can believe that Ron (Nick Offerman) has amassed a fortune large enough to shock an estate lawyer. But I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT DONNA WOULD END NOT ONE BUT TWO HASHTAGS WITH PERIODS.
