'I've Never Used A Hula Hoop'

And thus Divya cues some of the awkwardest hula-hooping in the history of the world.

Even as USA's Playing House has been impressing viewers with the general lack of clichéd TV situations surrounding its pregnant character, the ubiquitous promos for the Season 6 premiere of Royal Pains went the other way with Divya. Though there are many reasons I'm glad the show is back, prominent among them is that I will no longer have to see the ads with her screaming that her baby will arrive "when the time is RIIIIiiiiiiiiiiIIIIIIIGHT." Divya's labour, in flashback, seems largely to have come about to make Hank feel like his professional priorities are out of whack (as I've already described), and as such hit a lot of the notes we've seen before: she's dilating at a glacial pace; she's leery about speeding things along with a caesarean; she zzzzzzzzz. Fortunately, something happens to make this whole storyline not just worth watching but maaaaaaybe the best part of the episode?

Divya has named, as her labour coach, her roommate/friendzoned colleague Jeremiah, who is extremely supportive of her following her own instincts and sticking to her birth plan. When a nurse tries to get Divya to deviate by telling her the baby's moved into a tougher delivery position, Divya is unfazed: she says she'll just get up and move around in a way that will make her shift into a more conducive spot. Alone with Jeremiah in the fancy birthing suite, Divya slowly rocks her hips from side to side, whereupon he advises that she should do a motion that's more like working a hula hoop. "I've never used a hula hoop," says Divya.

And that's when Jeremiah decides to give her a demo. A real awkward demo.

This doesn't go on too long before Jeremiah admits that he's never rocked a hula hoop either. OH, WORD?! 'CAUSE YOU SEEM LIKE A TOTAL NATURAL, BRO!

Love Jeremiah; love his stiff-ass hula-hooping; love him and Divya together; love Ben Shenkman; love this stupid show.
