What Fast Food Chain Would EVER Try To Bring A CLAM SANDWICH To Market?
And more not-quite-burning questions about the latest Royal Pains.
What's Lorena going to do to fuck with Divya next?
Introducing, last week, the wrinkle of Sashi's paternal grandmother and her worrisome clinginess was interesting and offers a lot of story potential: while the show has already explored the challenges Divya's faced as a working single mother, delving into the complexities of international custody agreements is new and intriguing (and something I haven't seen much on TV). It makes sense that the mostly-offscrene Rafa would just go along with whatever Divya wants to do in terms of how much he sees Sashi and under what circumstances, but it ALSO makes sense that the grandmother who probably thought her trifling son would never give her a grandchild might try some sneaky shit to dig her claws into the one that miraculously appeared. While I understand that the "HankMed employee solves niggling medical problem, earns lifelong gratitude" is a Royal Pains trope -- guys, I have seen every episode of this show -- I'm not convinced that the psoriatic arthritis treatment Divya recommends is enough to defuse this situation permanently, and I'm very curious to know what else Lorena may have in mind to relieve Divya of Sashi for a while (or forever) (okay, probably not that) (but maybe...?).
What fast food chain would EVER try to bring a CLAM SANDWICH to market?
Yes, of course I have heard of the McLobster -- I am Canadian, after all -- so I guess it's possible that "Chewy's" is only offering this clam sandwich on a regional basis, and the Hamptons are one of the lucky markets to get them. But still...clam sandwich. That screen shot up top accurately captures my reaction to the idea of it, never mind the taste on the searing-hot beach after 140 takes. (Furthermore, as a decent person, I don't appreciate a slow pan up a woman's bikini-clad ass ending in a mention of a "clam sandwich." You think you're cute, Royal Pains, but I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE.)
Paige is The Mentalist now?
It's cute how the post-shooting plotline had Paige hung up on the details of the incident so that when she finally meets Olivia, the truth snaps into focus and she cracks the whole case. But even if we grant that an interior designer might have developed a strong sense of visual recall as a side effect of her profession, the instantaneity of her realization is not quite believable. I also don't love her babyish dress in this scene.
But that's beside the point, I GUESS.
What does that hand-hold meeeeeeeean?
I tolerated this whole Viviana experiment -- which, fortunately, now seems to be over -- in the hope that it might lead Divya and Jeremiah to figure out, at the same time, that they both like each other and totally belong together. So even though this moment occurs after they've agreed that they're better off being friends yet living apart...
...I still think it's a promise that they both REALLY want something more because I WILL NEVER STOP SHIPPING THEM!
Can we please be done with Emma now?
Because it's enough already. It was one (idiotic) thing when Hank was willing to respond to Emma's confirmation about the damaging Snarkhampton photo by accepting her hug and letting him snot all over his shoulder; Hank has always been the simple one willing to believe the best about everyone, and her extremely edited version of events did make the whole thing seem like a dopey mistake any teenager might make. And while I haven't ever really been on board with the show's attempts to excuse the shit Emma's done thus far with the old nature vs. nurture argument -- Emma's so sketchy because she grew up struggling, unlike Hank and Evan (who, by the way, didn't have such an awesome childhood either, what with their con-artist father and dying/dead mother) -- I wonder why producers even bothered trying if it was going to end up here. There's kind of no way to come back from stealing prescription pads -- or, at least, there shouldn't be; even the as-a-rule-soft-hearted Hank can't just wink at a violation like this, right? RIGHT?!
