Grip And Grin

Following the extreme horniness Claire (Julie Bowen) displayed in the Modern Family Valentine's Day episode, last night's interactions between her and Phil (Ty Burrell) were friendly but chaste. Well, mostly friendly: when Phil surprised her at her college reunion (admittedly, an event she confessed, via interview, she didn't want him to attend), she couldn't mask her displeasure for a second, making this face.

That's not just an unfortunate freeze, guys; she made her face do that for dozens of consecutive seconds. She followed her crabby greeting with only two instances of physical contact: first, grabbing Phil's wrist to try to stop him from embarrassing her in front of her ex, a prof played by Maxwell Caulfield.

She grabs his hand at a cocktail party at the professor's apartment, in the same vain purpose.

Their storyline ends with Claire telling Phil how grateful she is that he rescued her from a crappy life of (relative) penury with this professor. (Not grateful enough to kiss him, of course.)
