Claire's Kiss Is On My List
(Of things that haven't happened before the season's fifth episode.)
The central conflict between Phil (Ty Burrell) and Claire (Julie Bowen) in the latest Modern Family is classic Dunphy: she is annoyed that he is daring to make parenting decisions without her -- to wit, allowing Luke (Nolan Gould) to stay home by himself for the first time when she doesn't think he's ready to; while he is dismayed that she hasn't noticed the effort he's put into seducing her (buying and barely wearing an extremely "hip"/tight suit).
Most episodes would end such a spat with Claire giving Phil a reassuring pat on the arm, and us a gigantic eye-roll, but apparently someone on the writing staff noticed how frosty she's been this whole season to date and saw fit to make Bowen do something I assume she hates: touch Ty Burrell with part of her face as Claire kisses Phil in gratitude for the way he's stepped up as a parent since she's gone back to working outside the home.
...Okay, the way it's shot, it's very possible Bowen only got so far as to graze Burrell's chin with her nose. We'll never know.
